News: SPFL confirm Second Round IRN-BRU Cup entry 

The SPFL today have confirmed Inverness will enter the Irn Bru Cup in the second round.

The first round draw will be made next Tuesday, with this seasons competition receiving more prize money and one less round. 

The first round draw will be unseeded but will be regionalised.

The first round will contain 48 clubs:

All Championship sides bar ICTFC + Falkirk

All sides in League 1 and 2 

4 Highland League sides (Brora, Buckie, Cove and Formartine)

4 Lowland League sides (East Kilbride, Spartans, East Stirlingshire, Stirling University) 

12 Colt Premiership sides

This will leave 32 sides in the draw for the second round which will be 

The 24 winners of the first round ties

Falkirk + ICTFC 

2 Welsh clubs (Gap Connah’s Quay and The New Saints)

2 League of Ireland sides (Bray Wanderers and Sligo Rovers)

2 NI sides (Crusaders and Linfield)

Teams draw away to teams outside Scotland will be given a payment of £5000 to cover costs. 

The second round matches will take place on Saturday 2nd or Sunday 3rd September.
